Maggie at 6, well almost 7 months!

March 2nd, 2007

Whew, where does the time go?  Seriously, how did it get to be March?  As you can tell from the title time has certainly flown by us and Maggie’s 6-month update is a little behind!  Mostly because we’ve all just been so busy enjoying her, playing with and loving her up!

Maggie went in to see Dr. Bares on February 13 for her six-month well baby check.  She weighed in at 12 pounds, 15 ounces and measures 26 inches long.  For anyone keeping track, she is in the 60th percentile for her height and 5th percentile for her weight.

I’m surprised she’s only in the 5th percentile because she has some nice little legs!  Everything was great!  She passed the hearing test with flying colors and Dr. Bares was happy to see her disposition and strength. Read the rest of this entry »

Looks Like Mommy!

March 2nd, 2007

There is always a never-ending debate when you have a child as to “who does she look like?”  Well, we get a lot of both.  Generally, people who know Dad better think she looks like Dad and those that know Mom better think she looks like Mom.  Well she definitely has Dad’s eyes.  And we’ve always said she has Mom’s nose.  But we have proof now that the eyes might be Daddy’s, but the nose and mouth are definitely Mom’s.  Look at these 6 month pictures…

Maggie At 4 Months

December 15th, 2006

dscn1973_jpg.jpgWe had Maggie’s 4 month checkup and shots yesterday.  No surprise, she is still a peanut.  She is 23 3/4″ (25%) long, weighs 10 lb. 7 oz. (3%), and her head circumference is 15 1/2″ (10%).  Our pediatrician thought everything looked great.  He said as long as she doubles her birth weight by 6 months, all is well and she is well on her way toward that.  Read the rest of this entry »

Sleeping Beauty

November 7th, 2006

We haven’t added much to the blog for a while.  As expected, we’ve been a little busy being parents.  But we had a few breakthroughs I thought we should share.

First off, the tummy troubles.  We’ve come a long way there.  She is still on her medication, but we seem to be well over the hump.  Our pediatrician hopes to have her off of that her in the next month or so.  She is sleeping more now, which is reducing the amount of medication she takes simply because she’s not awake to get her dosages on time. Tummy Troubles

September 26th, 2006

tummy.jpgThere are many things about me that I hope that I haven’t handed down to my daughter.  But we know we have strike one.  Maggie has her Daddy’s tummy.  I had all kinds of tummy trouble as a baby.  My dad had to have stomach surgery at only a few days old.  Well, Maggie is falling in a long line of tricky tummies.

The first few weeks were great.  Then she started to develop crying fits that we just couldn’t console.  We would do everything we could to no avail.  Finally see would pass a couple toots and we’d eventually be able to get her back down to earth enough to get her to sleep. Baby’s Got Gas!

September 4th, 2006

DSCN0937.JPGThis is going to be one of those stories that in years to come Maggie will say, thanks a lot Mom and Dad! But, I feel it’s a good parenting story so I’m compelled to share.

It seems our precious little Maggie is plagued by gas/wind that she has a heck of a time working out. It first started almost two weeks ago. She would grunt and then pull her little legs up to her chest and just let out a little wail. At first I thought it was maybe something I was eating. One night I had spaghetti sauce that had chunks of garlic in it, the next refried beans. Naturally, I thought I was passing something on to her that she couldn’t pass.

Maggie TV!

August 27th, 2006

Last week, Dad had a revelation!  The little $60 digital camera that I bought a year ago for fun came with software to use it as a webcam.  So we gave it a shot and it works great.

My parents and my sister got webcams when Zach was born so they could have video conferences.  So we tried it out with them.  Using Windows Messenger, we are able to exchange video and audio for free.  It is really slick.  And then we found out that for Grandma and Grandpa Stuart as well as the Sieren family, we can send them our live webcam and talk to them over the phone.  It has been great fun and a wonderful way for everyone to see Maggie in action.  Read the rest of this entry »

Back To Work!

August 22nd, 2006

Daddy had to go back to work yesterday and today.  I’m taking the rest of the week off before hitting things full time again.  But I needed to write a blog for work today, so I wrote about Maggie!  What else?  Here’s the blog as it appeared in our station’s Weather Blog…

Maggie In The Weather CenterWell I’m back at it here in the Live Doppler 10 Weather Center! As if you didn’t hear, (I can’t stop talking about it) my wife and I welcomed a beautiful baby daughter on August 9. Margaret “Maggie” Jean Burchett has been a wonderful addition to our family! Since then, I’ve been at home getting accustomed my new role as super-dad. Needless to say, I am quite the proud papa! I miss her every second that I’m at work, but it has been good to get back to some sort of routine and see everyone back at the station again. I brought Maggie to work with me yesterday. But as you can see, she mainly slept through the tour! I have to say a huge thank you to my cohorts in weather David and Ben. They’ve had to work some crazy hours in order for me to have this time with my family. Even Mike Steele had to do some impromptu weather anchoring. So my heartfelt gratitude goes out to those guys and the management here at KLFY for being so supportive of me during this wonderful time. We really do operate like a family here at TV-10 and times like these really drive that home. Read the rest of this entry »

Maggie’s First Weeks

August 20th, 2006

Can you believe that Maggie is 11 days old now? Wow, everyone says time flies and they grow so quickly and man are they right! We seem to, and I repeat seem, to be falling into a bit of a schedule. This is where I knock on wood so not to jinx myself! She has been doing pretty good about an every three-hour feeding schedule. The last couple of nights she even wakes herself up at those times, which is good. The only thing is we have to work to keep her awake during the feedings, but that is getting better as well. (Again, knock on wood!) She’s had quite a few visitors, but they have all been spaced out nicely so it hasn’t overwhelmed us. We’re happy to show her off!

Did You Give us This?

August 20th, 2006

To whom it may concern - I sincerely apologize for being an idiot and throwing away the gift bag before closely inspecting who sent this beautiful smock dress. Yes, I am an idiot! Here’s the story. On the Thursday we were in the hospital, I was nursing Maggie and had the little sheet at the doorway pulled. Someone knocked on the door, I said come in, and they said from behind the curtain something along the lines of this is a gift from the hospital.

I said thank you and that she could just leave it on the counter. A little bit later on I got up to look at the gift. It was this very pretty smock dress Maggie is pictured in here. There were some names on the tag on the gift bag, but I didn’t look that closely at them thinking they were just hospital administrators. In my mind I thought this type of gift was standard for anyone having a baby in the hospital. Friday night I was set straight! Read the rest of this entry »
